GRANTS MANAGER

REPORTS TO: CEO
HOURS REQUIRED: FTE – 40 hours/week
SALARY: Competitive, DOE + comprehensive benefits package including medical and dental coverage and generous paid time off (PTO)

The Opportunity
Women’s Initiative is looking to hire an organized, proactive manager with excellent writing and proof reading skills to manage our grants team. This full-time position, based at our downtown Oakland location, is a key leader of our development staff. The grants manager leads our dynamic, fast-paced grants team that raises funds to support our growing business management training program and micro finance opportunities for low-income women throughout the Bay Area. The grants team upholds high performance standards and is responsible for raising $2+ million annually. This manager supervises our grant writing team and works closely with other leaders in the organization including our CEO, CFO, regional executive directors, and fundraising managers.

Responsibilities
General Administration & Management (35%)
• Supervise grants team and drive team’s progress
• Proofread, edit and provide constructive feedback to team members on proposals, reports, and letters of intent
• Manage calendar of institutional donors and ensure timely grant submissions and reporting
• Track pending and committed institutional income
• Maintain accurate and timely records of your interaction with donors using Raiser's Edge
• Work with program and administrative staff to ensure that grant agreements are fulfilled in a timely manner
• Facilitate regular grants team and/or development staff meetings
• Reconcile grantor records with finance staff monthly, including updating cash flow and revenue projections

External Relationships (15%)
• Manage relationships with grants officers at key funding institutions
• Meet with potential grantors to pitch ideas and cultivate relationships
• Promptly respond to funder requests for information and materials
• Regularly update key funders formally and informally to keep them abreast of our milestones
• Coordinate and host site visits with donors including preparing the meeting space and materials, arranging for necessary technology set up, ordering refreshments, etc.

Research & Writing (50%)
• Research current and prospective donors
• Write creative, quality grant requests, reports, and case statements that connect social trends and donor interest with our programming
• Respond to ad hoc requests of CEO and other directors for writing, research, and data as needed

Qualifications
• 5+ years fundraising and/or nonprofit management experience
• 3+ years grant writing experience
• Sharp proofreading skills and ability to deliver constructive feedback
• Excellent organizational skills
• Superior written communication skills with experience drafting high quality reports and grant proposals
• Impeccable attention to detail
• Ability to multi-task and adapt in a fast-moving work environment
• Superior time management skills, including ability to meet deadlines
• Proactive team player with demonstrated ability to motivate and lead others
• Knowledge of and interest in microenterprise development and/or micro finance
• Excellent computer skills including Outlook, Word, Power Point, and Excel
• Raiser’s Edge experience is highly desirable
